Yevgeny Kirillovich Zykov ( February 20, 1932 , Baranovka village, Ukrainian SSR , USSR - February 3, 1957 , Antarctica ) - a fifth-year student of the Leningrad Higher Engineering School na Admiral S. O. Makarov ( Leningrad ), navigator who died in Antarctica , in whose honor Zykova Island is named.

Biography
Born in 1932 in the village of Baranovka, Chernihiv region, in a peasant family. Immediately after his birth, the family moved to the Altai Territory .
In 1952 he entered the Leningrad Higher Marine Engineering School named. Admiral S. O. Makarov .
A fifth-year cadet is sent to practice at the Lena diesel-electric ship.
He died in Antarctica on February 3, 1957, together with Nikolai Buromsky during the 2nd Soviet Antarctic expedition three kilometers west of Mirny station, when the edge of the ice barrier collapsed and ice ( fast ice ) crashed onto the deck of the Ob icebreaker [1] .
He was buried in Antarctica on top of a nameless island [2] , and this island was named after him - Zykova Island .

Since 1957, the feeling that I should write about my fallen comrades did not leave me. I sailed again and again to Antarctica. For them, that expedition was the first and the last.
