Biography

Born in 1937 in . In 1960 he took part in the Olympic Games in Rome , where he became 4th in the 3000m hurdles. In 1962 he became the champion of Europe in this discipline, and in 1964 at the Olympic Games in Tokyo he won a gold medal in it, but in 1966 at the European Championship he became only a bronze medalist in this discipline. In 1968 he took part in the Olympic Games in Mexico City , where he became 11th in the marathon and 7th in the 3000m hurdles. In 1969, he won the silver medal in the marathon at the European Championships. In 1972 he took part in marathon competitions at the Olympic Games in Munich , but did not win awards. In 1974, he won a bronze medal in a marathon at the European Championships. Together with the Englishman and the Frenchman Alain Mimun, Gaston Roulants is the record holder for the number of victories in Cross of Nations - four; in 1972 he became his last winner.
