The house in which Shekhurdin lived

Born on March 10 ( March 22 ), 1886 in the village of Bykovo (now Kirov Region ).

He graduated from a village school and a two-year school. In 1901 - 1904 he studied at the Nartas Agricultural School. He was sent to work in the village of Krotkoye ( Tula province ), for several years he was in charge of the estate on the estate of Professor I. A. Stebut .

In 1911 he moved to Saratov , worked as a laboratory assistant at the agricultural experimental station. The first in Russia applied the methods of interspecific, intergeneric and complex stepwise hybridization in the selection of grain crops. In 1920-1924 he bred several promising varieties of spring wheat.

In 1928 he graduated from the Saratov Agricultural Institute as an external student. Doctor of Agricultural Sciences (1936). Professor (1945). In 1946-1948, at a scientific and teaching work at the department of selection and seed production of the Saratov Agricultural Institute.

He died on March 2, 1951 in Saratov .

On the basis of spring wheat varieties obtained by Shekhurdin, his students in 1960 developed the Saratovskaya 29 variety, which gained world fame. In the USSR, this wheat was grown on an area of ​​more than 7 million hectares.

One of the streets of Saratov is named after Shekhurdin. A monument was erected to him on the territory of the NIISH of the Southeast RSHA.
