Description
Medium-sized ants are yellow-brown in color (mandibles and legs are lighter). Head length (HL) 0.78-0.91 mm, head width (HW) 0.56-0.64 mm. They have relatively large oval eyes and a strong sting. The body is narrow, the legs are short. The stalk between the breast and the abdomen consists of two nodular segments (petiol and postpetiol). It differs from closely related species in short and high petiol. They live in the cavities of living trees and shrubs of acacia ( Acacia ) with which they are in a mutually beneficial relationship. In Florida, they live in the branches of Avicennia germinans , Baccharis halimifolia , Laguncularia racemosa and Rhizophora mangle , in mangroves; in Texas, in Quercus virginiana and Prosopis ; in Mexico, in Quercus fusiformis ; in Costa Rica and Panama - in Gliricidia sepium , Helicteres and Inga [1] [2] [3] [4] .
