On August 20, 1996, during an operation to unblock the Coordination Center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia and repel an attack by militants on the building of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Chechen Republic, V.I. Marchenko led the detachment of the SOBR. He skillfully led the maneuver and fire of his subordinates. On August 20, 1999, by the decision of the head of the administration of Vladivostok, Tormoznaya Street in the Pervorechensky district of the city was renamed Marchenko Street.
