Biography
Flann was the son of King Aed Mack Dlutayg , who ruled the small kingdom of Fir Hul Breg. He was a member of the Sil Dlutig, one of the Bregt septs . Perhaps, after the death of his father, who died in 701, Flann gained power over his possessions [1] .
During his reign, Flann poppy Aedo was at enmity with the Meade kings of the Clann Holmain clan, and also participated in the feuds of Brega, supporting the rulers of Nauta (North Brega) from the Wye Honing clan against the kings of Lagor (South Brega) from the Wye Hernaig clan.
In 711, Flann's brother Mack Aedo, Ku Rai, died in the Battle of Sliab Fight (present-day Fuse in Arma County ), fighting against the High King of Ireland Fergal Mack Mael Duyne of the Kenel Eogain family. Together with Ku Rai, his ally, the ruler of the small kingdom Wu Mait Tnutah poppy Mohloingeys [2] [3], fell on the battlefield. In 712, during the internecine war, Flann won, and then killed the king of Lagor Mane, poppy Neill [4] .
In 714, Flann Mack Aedo entered into armed conflict with the ruler Mede Murhad Midi . In the battle of Bill Tened (near Moyalty ), the army of Fir Hul Breg was defeated. At the beginning of the battle, the Breggians succeeded (two brothers of King Moorhad fell in the fray), but after the death of King Flann his warriors took flight [5] . Thus, Murhad Midi avenged the death of his father Diarmait Dian , who was killed in 689 by Aed Mack Dlutayg, the father of King Flann [6] . The battle of Bill Tened is one of the episodes of the long-term struggle of the rulers Klann Holmayn and Sil Aedo Slane for hegemony over the lands of the South Ue Neil , the beginning of which dates back to 600 [7] .
It is not known exactly who inherited the power over Fir Hul Breg after the death of Flann Mack Aedo: either his brother Gormgal, who died in battle in 718 [8] , or his son Dungal mack Flynn, who fell in battle with King Bregi in 743 [9] Indrechtahom poppy Dungalaygom [10] and mentioned in the Irish annals with the royal title [1] .
