Biography

Konayn Kuyrre was the son of King Bregui Kongal mak Aedo Slane [1] [2] . His father, along with his co-co-brother Ailil Harper, died in 634, fighting with King Meade Conall Gutbinn of the Clann Holmine clan [3] . After the death of Kongal and Aylil, Brega's throne passed to their brothers, Blatmak and Diarmait , who in 658 also became the supreme kings of Ireland [4] .

Probably, during the reign of Blatmak and Diarmait, Koning Kuyrre received part of the Breg lands under management. His power extended to the northern regions of the kingdom, located north of the Liffey River [5] . These territories were called Naut (after the ancient Irish mound of the same name located here, where the royal residence [6] was located ) or Tetba . The exact date Conining received these lands is not known. In Flan Meinistrech ’s poem Síl Aeda Sláne na Sleg , preserved in the Leinster Book , Coning is also mentioned as the king of Brega. In this essay, his reign of Breguay is located between the joint reign of Blatmak and Diarmait, and the reign of King Sechnussach poppy Blatmaik [7] .

According to the Irish annals , in 662 a conflict arose between the High Kings Blatmac and Diarmight, in which their relatives and dependent persons were involved. In the battle at Ogomine, the victory was won by the army of King Diarmait. Among the Blatmayk supporters who died in the battle, the Annals call Koning Kuirre and two rulers of the Kianahnts, Ulthan Mack Ernayn and Kenn Faelada Mack Gertida. In the Annals of the Tygernach and the Scottish Chronicle , it is reported that after losing the battle at Ogoman, Blatmike was removed from power. However, evidence of this event is absent in the Annals of Ulster recorded earlier, and therefore the data on the overthrow of Blatmak may be unreliable [4] [8] .

The descendants of Koning Kuirre, known as Wui Honaying , constituted one of the two main branches of the genus Sil Aedo Slane. His sons - Kongalah and Irgalah - at the turn of the 7th – 8th centuries were the kings of the whole Brega [1] [2] . Kayntigern, the daughter of Coning, was the fourth wife of King Leinster Kellah Qualann [9] .
