“Peers” , also “Growing Up” [1] ( た け く ら べ Takekurabe ) is a film by Japanese director Heinosuke Gosho , an adaptation of the psychological novel of the same name by the writer Itiyo Higuchi , published in 1895 [2] .

Story
Fourteen-year-old Midori and her friends, who live near Yoshiwara’s Tokyo “red light district,” live out the last weeks of their carefree childhood, not yet knowing that they are about to enter adulthood, without being able to choose their own destiny - Midori already has a contract , preparing her fate oiran , one of the boys in love with her will become a usurer, another Buddhist priest - and these are only the most prosperous ...
