SS Belgenland (1914)

SS "Belgenland" ("Belgenland") - the British passenger liner of the company " White Star Line ". In 1923 it was sold to Red Star Line . This is one of the first ships to circumnavigate the world. Scrapped in 1936 .

The ship was planned to replace the " Titanic ", the original name was "Ceric". The ship was built at the Harland & Wolff shipyards in Belfast , but even before the completion of work, the First World War began. The Belgic IV, as the ship was now called, was completed in 1917, but already as a transporter. At the same time, the ship had a displacement of 24,547 tons , with two pipes, three masts and without a superstructure [1] .

After the war ended, the ship underwent significant changes, after which it was sold to Red Star Line in 1923 and received the name Belgenland. The rebuilt ship accommodated 2500 passengers. With a displacement of 27,132 tons , three pipes, two masts and a four-deck superstructure, he was the largest ship of the company [1] . The main dimensions of the ship are 212 m long, midship-wide 23.88 m, draft 13.61 m [2] .

The first trip from Antwerp to New York with passengers on board took place on April 4, 1923. The last voyage across the Atlantic was in March 1933. In 1935, the ship was sold to Atlantic Transport Company , after which it began shipping via the Panama Canal in the direction of New York - California , which did not bring profit, and received a new name "Columbia". In April 1936, made his last voyage across the Atlantic [1] , after which he was demolished at Bo'ness, West Lothian [2] .
