MUL.APIN is the common name of two cuneiform tablets, which are a compendium of astronomical and astrological knowledge of ancient Babylon . The name stands for “Star / Plow”, where “Plow” is the first of the described constellations corresponding to the modern Triangle and γ Andromeda .
MUL.APIN is written in the style of earlier star catalogs, so-called “Three Stars” lists ( eng. Three Stars Each lists ), but it is an extended version based on more accurate observations and dated ca. 1000 years BC er The text contains the names of 66 stars and constellations, and also gives a number of parameters, such as sunrise, sunset and climax. These parameters helped to create a base map of the starry sky of Babylonia.
There is evidence that the third and still not found tablet sometimes served as a supplement to the series. It was supposed to begin with a scholastic explanation of the signs of heaven [1] .
