Andrei Vyacheslavovich Zavyalkin (born May 23, 1980, Noginsk , Moscow Region - d. January 5, 2000, Grozny , Chechnya , buried in Noginsk) is a junior sergeant of the Russian Armed Forces , a participant in the Second Chechen War , Hero of the Russian Federation ( 2000 , posthumous). Commander of a motorized rifle company detachment of the 205th separate Cossack motorized rifle brigade of the North Caucasian Military District.

Biography
Born May 23, 1980 in the city of Noginsk, Moscow Region. In 1995, he graduated from the ninth grade of Noginsk Secondary School No. 1, after which he worked as a fitter at the Noginsk Fuel Equipment Plant and studied at the working youth school. He was involved in judo , the winner of many competitions, the champion of the Moscow region in this sport.
In the spring draft of 1998, he was called up for service in the Russian Army. He served in the 205th motorized rifle brigade of the North Caucasus Military District. In July 1998, the brigade was transferred to the city of Budennovsk. Andrey Zavyalkin received the rank of junior sergeant, commanded the squad.
Since August 1999, he participated in the hostilities in Dagestan, and since October 1999 - in Chechnya. During his service for heroism he was awarded two medals of Marshal Zhukov.
In a battle on January 5, 2000, in the Staropromyslovsky District of Grozny, a platoon in which Andrei Zavyalkin was located was surrounded. Andrey Zavyalkin courageously proved himself on the battlefield, helping wounded colleagues (bringing them to shelter and providing them with first aid). He took command of the platoon after the platoon commander was mortally wounded, made a breakthrough from the environment in which the platoon suffered heavy losses. Andrey Zavyalkin, together with one of the fighters, carried out 5 wounded, returned for the wounded company commander, during the evacuation of which his partner was killed. He died when the mines were broken by multiple fragmentation wounds, closing the company commander.
He was buried in Noginsk.
By a decree of the President of the Russian Federation dated April 11, 2000, junior sergeant Zavyalkin Andrey Vyacheslavovich was awarded the title of Hero of the Russian Federation (posthumously) for courage and heroism shown during the counter-terrorist operation in the North Caucasus region [1] .
Secondary school No. 1 in the city of Noginsk was given the name of Hero, and a memorial plaque is installed on the school building. A tournament in judo is held annually in Noginsk in memory of Hero of Russia Andrei Zavyalkin [2] .
