Biography

Domnall was the son of the ruler of Aileh and the High King of Ireland, Aed Findliat , who died in 879. The name of Domnall's mother is not known exactly [2] . As suggested by the American medievalist , it could have been Mael Muire , daughter of King Alba Kenneth I. Also, this researcher identified Domnall with King of Strathclyde Donald II , who ruled at the beginning of the X century. However, among modern historians there are both supporters and opponents of this assumption [3] [4] .

The first mention of Domnall poppy Aed in the Irish annals is dated 863. According to the " Fragmentary Annals of Ireland ", this year Domnall killed King Ayrtyr Muyredah poppy Mael Duyna [2] [5] .

After the death of Murhad, poppy Mael Duyna , in 887, Domnall poppy Aeda received the throne of Aileh. Until 896, he shared power over this kingdom with the son of his predecessor, Flattbert Mack Murhado , and then with his half-brother Niall Glundub [6] [7] .

In 905, a serious conflict occurred between Domnall poppy Aeda and his co-ruler Niall Glundub. Only the intervention of relatives prevented the outbreak of civil war between the brothers. Finally, peace between Domnall and Niall was achieved in 908, when they made a joint campaign in Mead , during which they burned down the religious center of this kingdom of Tlahtgu [6]

Flann, son of Domnall, was appointed heir to the throne ( Dr. Irl. Rig Domma ) while his father was still alive, died in 906. In 911, Domnall, making Niall the sovereign ruler of the kingdom, retired to one of the Irish monasteries [2] [6] [8] . In him, he died in 915 [9] .

Domnall poppy Aeda from a marriage with an unknown wife named had five sons: Flatbert , Fergal , Donnhad, Konkhobar and Flann. The first two, as well as their father, owned the throne of Ailech, Donnhad was killed in 928 by the Vikings , and Konkhobar was the father of the kings of Flattbert, Tagd and Conn. According to the Annals of Ulster , the daughter of Domnall was an unknown by the name of the wife of Uatmaran, the son of King Dublin and York Ivar I [2] [10] .
