Biography
Mael Duyne belonged to the septum Kenel Mike Erke . He was the son of King Ailech Mael Fitrich of Mac Aedo , who died in 630. [2] [3] After Fergus Krundmail 's death in 668 from the septum Kenel Feradayg, Mael Duin himself gained power over Ailech. Although the treatise “ Laud Synchronisms ” endowed Mael Duin with eleven years of government, this monarch held the throne until 681 years [4] .
According to the testimony of the Irish annals , Mael Duin Mac Mael Fithrich led an active policy, the purpose of which was to establish Ailech as the strongest kingdom of the North Wy Neils [5] . In 675, in the battle of Dun Forgo (near Lough Foyle ) he defeated King Ayghialla Dunhad poppy Ultine from the Wei Mac Cairtin genus. King Dunhad fell to the battlefield [6] . This victory allowed Mael Duin to take control of the land between the Foyle and Ro rivers [5] .
However, as early as 676, the royal residence of Mael Duin's poppy Mael Fitrich was destroyed by the supreme king of Ireland, Finsnecht Pyroliubov of the Forces Aedo Slana [7] . Probably the cause of the war was Finsnecht’s claims of hegemony over the rulers of the Northern Wye Neill.
In 681, Mael Duin Mac Mael Fitrich successfully fought with the coalition of the king Dal Ariide Dungal Ailni Mac Scandail and the ruler of the glenn-Geymin kyannakhtov Kenn Faelada Mac Suibni. In the annals of this conflict is referred to as "the burning of kings in Dun Katirn" (in the modern county of Londonderry ) [8] . However, at the beginning of this winter, Mael Duin was defeated in the Battle of Bla Slab and fell on the battlefield. His opponents were Glenn-Gymean Kiannakhts and Flann Mac Mael Tuile , his distant cousin from the septa Kenel Feradayg, who competed with the Mael Duin family of the septum [9] . After the death of Mael Duin, his winner Flann became the new ruler of Ailech [3] .
Mael Duin Mac Mael Fitrich was married to Kaht, daughter of the King of Ireland Kellaha Mac Mael Cobo . His son from this marriage - Fergal poppy Mael Duin - was the ruler of Ailech and the supreme king of Ireland [2] [3] . The descendants of Mael Duin gained fame as the family of [10] .
