That year, Sargsyan got into the application for the match six times, but made his debut as early as next season.

The arrival of a new coach, Nikita Simonyan, improved the team's playing style, which Ararat proved in sparring with Moscow teams. In 1973, the team reached the final of the USSR Cup , had to play with Dynamo Kiev. In the 61st minute, after a penalty carried out by Viktor Kolotov , Dynamo took the lead. Nevertheless, Sargsyan played well in defense, not allowing Gerd Müller to score, who after the match in an interview with “ Soviet Sport ” noted the game of Armen. In 1975, “Ararat” repeated the success in the cup, beating the Lugansk “ Dawn ” with a score of 2: 1.
