Asian Chess Championship

The Asian Chess Championship is a Swiss- language chess tournament organized by the Asian Chess Federation [1] for Asian chess players. Competitions are held in two categories: among men (open championship) and among women. In addition to the title of Asian champion, in men's competitions tickets for the World Cup are played, and in women's competitions for the World Cup among women by knockout system .

In 1977, the first Asian team chess championship was held. It was held from December 9 to 21 in the territory of Malaysia in the state of Penang .

The first individual chess championship in Asia was the women's championship, organized in 1981 . The idea of this competition was promoted by the Indian chess player Nasiruddin Ghalib who left the active game. The champion was the chess player from India, Rohini Cadilcar , who easily won the title of champion of Asia. She retained this title in the next championship, held in 1983 in the capital of Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur . Indian chess players initially dominated these competitions, winning the first five.

The first individual championship of Asia among men was held only in 1998 , much later than the women's. It was held from August 14 to 27 in the Iranian capital Tehran . The champion was a chess player from Uzbekistan Rustam Kassymjanov . [2]
