Historically, the port city of Almeria, located in southern Spain, was an important strategic object from the point of view of trade [2] . At various times, the city was owned by the Romans , Carthaginians , Phoenicians [2] . However, the Muslims made the greatest contribution to the arrangement. In 955, the first stone was laid in the construction of the Alcazaba de Almeria fortress, the watch tower and fortress walls were originally erected, later the fortress became the residence of the Caliphate, and reached the greatest dawn in the 11th century under the rule of Caliph Al-Jairan, becoming the center of trade for all Andalusia [3 ] .

The fortress has several levels [4] . The lower level served as a military camp (gardens now grow there), the middle level was given over to the government of the caliphate, the levels were connected by a viewing ladder equipped with military fortifications [5] . The castle is located on earthquake-prone territory, and during its existence it was periodically subjected to earthquakes, which negatively affected infrastructure facilities, most of which are now ruins, up to now, from Muslim buildings, only the Khalifa wells have been preserved in good condition.

In 1489 , when the Catholics conquered the Alcazaba from the Muslims in the castle, the upper level was erected, for military purposes it housed artillery [4] . In 1524-1562, the Cathedral was built in the Gothic style on the territory of the castle, the basis for the temple was a completely rebuilt Islamic mosque, the architect of the construction was Diego de Siloe [2] .

At various times on the territory of the fortress there were filming of feature films: " Conan the Barbarian ", " Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade ", " Never Say" Never " " [6] .
