Jerzy (Jurek) Bichan (Bytshan) ( Polish. Jerzy (Jurek) Bitschan ; November 29, 1904 , Lviv - November 21, 1918 , Lviv ) - Polish scout , participant in the battle for Lviv in 1918 . One of the youngest Polish defenders of Lviv . The symbol of the Lviv eagles .
Contrary to the will of the parents, in the first days of fighting with the Ukrainians in Lviv, a 14-year-old student of the gymnasium, decided to join the fight. His mother, Alexandra Zagorskaya (Zagurskaya) , also participated in the battles. The boy left his father a letter in which he wrote:
Dear Dad! Today I am going to enroll in the army. I want to prove that I can find the strength to serve and endure. It is my duty to go when I have enough strength, because people still do not have enough people to liberate the city. Jerzy
Fought for Lviv. He was killed on the last day of fighting in the city on the battlefield during an exchange of fire at the Lychakiv Cemetery , wounded in both legs by a shell explosion. He was trying to help the bleeding Jerzy, but another fragment of an artillery shell hit the boy in the shoulder. There was no chance to save the young hero. He was later buried in the same cemetery. He became one of the last victims of the first stage of the battle for Lviv.
He was posthumously awarded Polish military awards.
The young man was subsequently described in his works by Polish writers, depicted by artists, one of the streets of Lviv in 1938-1950 was named after him.
