He studied at the ballet school at the Paris Opera with teachers from Gustave Rico, Carlotta Zambelli , Serge Lifar , and also took lessons from Russian ballerinas L. Egorova , M. Kshesinsky , O. Preobrazhenskaya .

At the end of his studies in 1946 , he was accepted into the corps de ballet of the Paris Opera. In 1951 , at the age of 19, he was elevated to the rank of first dancer . In 1957 he danced at the Metropolitan Opera Theater ( USA ). He also danced in Germany , Switzerland , Benelux countries . In 1995 , he completed his career as a dancer at the Paris Opera, but until 1997 he continued to collaborate with this theater as a choreographer .

In 50 - 60 years. - Artistic Director of the Eiffel Tower Ballet troupe at the Champs Elysees Theater , for which he staged the Concertino plays to the music of A. Vivaldi , The Parisian Boy to the music of S. Aznavour , The Night of the Sorceress to the music of S. Béchet, "Solstice" to the music of D. Weinberg, etc.

In 1963 - 1968 - Artistic director of the troupe "National Ballet of the French Musical Youth", where he met with the dancer Gilen Tesmar , who later became his wife. For this troupe he staged 35 ballets, including “The Voice” in collaboration with E. Piaf , “Hamlet” to music by W. Walton, “Future Passions” to music by V. Lutoslavsky, “Simple Symphony” to music by B. Britten .

Since 1968 , he began exploring archives, including at Harvard University , and collecting historical records. The ballet La Sylphide by J. Schneitzgoffer, reconstructed by Lacotte in 1971 ( 1972 ), was widely known for it (choreography by F. Taglioni ). Subsequently, he carried out the transfer of this production to the stages of other theaters in the world, including in the USSR in 1979 - 1980 . After a while, he reconstructed the ballet “Butterfly” (choreography by M. Taglioni ). In 2001 , he reconstructed the ballet Coppelia (choreography by A. Saint-Leon ), in which he played the role of Coppelius. Most of Lacotte's productions were broadcast by French and British television.

Since 1985 - Director of the Monte Carlo Ballet, in 1991 - 2001 - Ballet of the National Opera of Lorraine in Nancy . He taught at the National Conservatory, at the Paris Opera he worked as a teacher - tutor .

In 1987 , he wrote a book about ballet (co-authored with Jean-Pierre Pastory) - “Tradition” (Editions Favre).

Collaborates with the theaters of the USSR and Russia : for example, in 1980 , specially for Ekaterina Maksimova staged the ballet Natalie or the Swiss Thrush in Moscow , in 2000 he delivered the ballet The Daughter of the Pharaoh , specially for the Bolshoi Theater , in 2006 . specially for the troupe of the Mariinsky Theater , he delivered the ballet , in 2011 he transferred the production of the ballet La Sylphide to the MAMT stage, in 2013 he transferred the production of the ballet Marko Spada to the stage of the Bolshoi Theater, etc.
