Harry (Jim) Waits ( English Harry "Jim" Waites ; June 8, 1878 , Stockport - 1938 , Otley , West Yorkshire ) - English football coach. Best known in the Netherlands for working with clubs, “Be Quick 1887” , "Frisia 1883" and Feyenoord .

Early years

Harry Waits was born on June 8, 1878 in the English city of Stockport , in the family of Arthur Waits and Emma Festild.

In his youth, Harry played rugby .

Career

Harry Waits served in the British Navy, and during World War I fell into an open prisoner of war camp in the Netherlands , as well as football player Arnold Birch [1] . In the city of Groningen, Harry began to provide massage services and even advertised in the local newspaper [2] . In 1916, he became a trainer and massage therapist at the football club "Be Kwik 1887" [3] , and three years later he became the head coach [4] . In the season 1919-1920 his team won the national championship. [5]

In January 1921, Waits became a coach in the club "Frisia 1883" from the city of Leeuwarden [6] . In June of the same year, Harry replaced Fred Warburton as head coach of the Netherlands national team . Under his leadership, the national team held just one friendly match against Denmark [7] .

Since 1924, Waits coached “ Feyenoord ” from Rotterdam , but due to poor results he left the club in 1925. After that, he returned to England and in August became the coach of the Lisd RLFC rugby club. Harry later worked as a massage therapist at the Yorkshire Cricket Club.

Personal Life

Waits was married three times. From a marriage with Tia Pasma, he had a daughter, Henrietta Alida.
