Henryk Litwin ( Polish: Henryk Litwin ; born March 13, 1959 , Warsaw , Polish People's Republic ) is a Polish historian and diplomat , Polish ambassador to Belarus (2006-2010) and Ukraine (2011-2016). State Secretary of State (Deputy Minister) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Poland for Eastern Policy and Consular Affairs.

Biography

In 1982 he graduated from the Historical Institute of the University of Warsaw , after which he continued his studies in doctoral studies at the Historical Institute of the Polish Academy of Sciences . In 1988 he defended his doctoral dissertation on the subject of the resettlement of the Polish gentry to Ukraine in 1569-1648 . He remained an adjunct at the Institute of History of the Academy of Sciences until 1991.

In 1991, he received an offer to work in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Poland. He became the head of the Consular Agency of the Republic of Poland in Lviv , and after it changed its status to the Consulate General, Litvin became the first ever Consul General of Poland in Lviv. In 1994-1995 he worked at the Polish Historical Institute of the Lantskoronsky Foundation in Rome .

In 1995 he returned to the diplomatic service. He was Deputy Director of the Department of Eastern Europe at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, responsible for relations with Belarus, Ukraine and Moldova . Since 1997, Plenipotentiary Advisor to the Minister and Head of the Consular Section at the Polish Embassy in Rome. In 2002-2005, the Deputy Ambassador and the head of the political department of the Polish Embassy in Moscow . Upon his return to Poland, he was the head of a department of the Russian Federation and deputy director of the Department of Eastern Policy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In February 2006, he was appointed to the post of Ambassador of Poland to Belarus [1] , but due to tensions in bilateral relations , he presented his credentials only on December 11, 2007 [2] .

On May 7, 2010 he was appointed to the post of state secretary (deputy minister) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for Eastern Policy and Consular Affairs [3] .

On May 6, 2011, he was appointed Polish Ambassador to Kiev [4] [5] . He presented his credentials on June 14 [6] [7] . He ended his term on August 31, 2016 [8] .

Personal life

Married. Two sons. He speaks English , Italian , Russian and Ukrainian .
