Located on the Arap River, 25 km from the district center and 17 km from the train station Ogaryovka. The name is associated with the ethnonym Moksha and Bark "River." According to archaeological data, it was founded by settlers from the city of Arzamas in the 16th century. after the conquest by Ivan IV of Kazan. In the "List of Populated Places of the Penza Province" (1869) Mokshaley - a state-owned village of 225 yards (1,563 people) of the Saransk district . According to the “Podvornaya census of peasant farming” (1913), in Mokshalei there were 333 yards (1 920 people); Orthodox Church. In 1918, the Council of Peasant Deputies was formed (leader - A.
