Biography

Born in 1899 in the village of Dobryanka, now Gorodnyansky district, Chernihiv region , Ukraine .

In the Red Army from 1919 to 1924. Member of the Civil War.

Since the beginning of the Great Patriotic War in 1941, he was again called to the Red Army as a representative of the Military Council of the Army in 348 SD, head of the 1st department of the operational management of the 31st army headquarters, head of the operational management of the Steppe, later the 2nd Ukrainian (1943-44) and 1st Ukrainian (1944-45) fronts.

For the Berlin and Prague operations was presented to the rank of Hero of the Soviet Union [1] [2] , but was awarded the Order of Suvorov I degree.

After the end of World War II he continued to serve in the Soviet Army.

In 1953-60 he was chief of staff of the Carpathian Military District.

In 1959, Kostylev was given the military rank of colonel general .

He died in 1970. Buried in Moscow at Novodevichy Cemetery [3]
