History

The future city was founded in 1826 on a site granted by Samuel Vance specifically for the arrangement of the district center. The status of a self-governing rural settlement ( incorporated village ) was received in 1849. The city, most likely, got its name from the word Paris (“ Paris ”), carved on the trunk of Maryland oak , which stood in the center of the future urban area [2] .

The commission form of local government was adopted in 1915. In 1907, l. Shoff acquired the Centralia White Stockings baseball team, renaming it Paris Colts . In 1908, the team began to be called "Paris Parisians", and after the playing season of the same year, it went bankrupt. In the city, the Paris Lakers team emerged, which in 1956 became the champion of the Midwest League, was a division of the Chicago Cubs team [3] .
