Getting
- Fusion of stoichiometric amounts of niobium pentoxide and potassium hydroxide :
Physical Properties
Potassium hexaniobate forms colorless crystals.
It is soluble in water with hydrolysis. Resistant in aqueous solutions with pH = 13.
It forms crystalline hydrates of the composition K 8 Nb 6 O 19 • n H 2 O, where n = 4 [1] and 16 [2] .
Chemical Properties
- Weak alkaline (pH = 9 ÷ 13) aqueous solutions are hydrolyzed:
- acid salt forms crystalline hydrates K 7 HNb 6 O 19 • n H 2 O, where n = 12 and 13.
