Content

Getting

  • Reduction of lithium tetrahydridoaluminate followed by hydrolysis of dichlorobis (cyclopentadienyl) niobium :
Nb(CfiveHfive)2Cl2→-LiClLi[AlHfour]Nb(AlHfour)(CfiveHfive)2→-Al(OH)3H2ONb(CfiveHfive)2H3{\ displaystyle {\ mathsf {Nb (C_ {5} H_ {5}) _ {2} Cl_ {2} \ {\ xrightarrow [{- LiCl}] {Li [AlH_ {4}]}} \ Nb (AlH_ {4}) (C_ {5} H_ {5}) _ {2} \ {\ xrightarrow [{- Al (OH) _ {3}} {H_ {2} O}} \ Nb (C_ {5} H_ {5}) _ {2} H_ {3}}}}

Physical Properties

Trihydrido bis (cyclopentadienyl) niobium forms white crystals, which, in contact with oxygen in the air, become purple in color.

Unstable in light and air. Store at -35 ° C in the absence of oxygen and water. It dissolves in benzene , does not dissolve in tetrahydrofuran .

Chemical Properties

  • Benzene solution readily absorbs carbon monoxide :
Nb(CfiveHfive)2H3+CO→Nb(CO)(CfiveHfive)2H+H2{\ displaystyle {\ mathsf {Nb (C_ {5} H_ {5}) _ {2} H_ {3} + CO \ {\ xrightarrow {}} \ Nb (CO) (C_ {5} H_ {5}) _ {2} H + H_ {2}}}}
