History
The diocese was formed on June 15, 2004 by allocating nine parish districts of the archdiocese of Barcelona to the new diocese.
Current status
The diocese unites the parishes west of Barcelona . Since its founding, the diocese has been led by Bishop Agustin Cortes Soriano . Cathedral of the Diocese - Cathedral of St. Lawrence . According to 2004 data, the diocese numbered 600,000 believers, 121 parishes and 153 priests [1] .
After the formation of the diocese, the main Catholic shrine of Catalonia and one of the main pilgrimage centers of Spain, Montserrat Monastery, appeared on its territory. In addition to it, the Basilica of St. Mary in the city of Villafranca del Penedes also holds the honorary status of a small basilica .
