Biography
Semen Anisimovich Afonin was born on August 19, 1900 . Voluntarily went to the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army in August 1918 ] and [1] .
Member of the Civil War from 1918 to 1921. In 1926, a party to the disarmament gangs in Dagestan. In 1940, the head of the 8th department of ABTU, in October 1940, the head of the 3rd department of the Armored Directorate of the Armored Directorate [2] .
From January 1943 to August 17, 1944 Head of the Armored Directorate of the Main Armored Directorate [2] .
On August 21, 1943, Afonin was given a military rank, Major General of tank engineering. He participated in the creation of a small amphibious tank T-40 , was also an active participant in the production of the T-60 tank [1] .
He took part in the work to improve the quality of tanks. Also established the production of a new tank IS-1 [1] .
He died in a car accident on August 17, 1944. He was buried at the Novodevichy cemetery in Moscow [1] .
He was awarded the Order of Lenin, World War 1 degree, two orders of the Red Star, a medal [1] .
