In 1445, a civil war resumed in the Emirate of Granada. The struggle for power began between the emir Muhammad IX and his nephews, Abu al-Hajjaj Yusuf and Muhammad al-Ahnaf. Abu al-Hajjaj Yusuf lived in exile in Cordoba, in Muhammad al-Ahnaf (Lame) was governor in Almeria .
In January 1445, Muhammad al-Ahnaf seized the throne of Emir in Granada under the name Muhammad X, overthrowing his uncle Muhammad IX. In June of the same year, under the pressure of the Abenseragi clan and the king of Castile, the emir Muhammad al-Ahnaf was forced to cede the throne to Abu al-Hajjaj Yusuf, who took the name Yusuf V.
In January 1446, after a six-month reign of Yusuf V ibn Ahmad, he was ousted from the throne by Muhammad al-Ahnaf . At the beginning of 1448, Muhammad al-Ghalib again regained power in Granada, removing Muhammad al-Ahnaf from power.
