Biography
Peter Novikov was born on January 22, 1910 in the village of Kolodezny (now the Kashirsky District of the Voronezh Region ). After graduating from high school he lived and worked in Moscow . In parallel with the work involved in a glider school. In 1932 - 1933 he served in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army , graduated from the school of junior aviation specialists. After demobilization, he lived and worked in Leningrad . He graduated from the Koktebel Higher Flight Glider School, flying club and school of instructor pilots in Leningrad. In 1939, Novikov was again drafted into the army. He participated in the battles of the Soviet-Finnish war . From March 1943 - on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War [1] .
By March 1945, Senior Lieutenant Peter Novikov commanded a squadron of the 943rd Assault Aviation Regiment of the 277th Assault Aviation Division of the 1st Air Army of the 3rd Belorussian Front . By that time, he had made 135 combat sorties to attack the clusters of military equipment and enemy personnel, inflicting heavy losses on him [1] .
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of April 19, 1945, for "courage and heroism shown on the front against the German invaders," senior lieutenant Peter Novikov was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal for number 4721 [ 1] .
Participated in the Victory Parade . After the war, he continued service in the Soviet Army. In 1951 Novikov graduated from the Higher Flight Tactical Courses. In 1959, in the rank of colonel, he was dismissed. He lived and worked in Leningrad. Died May 29, 1978 , buried in the South Cemetery of St. Petersburg [1] .
He was also awarded three Orders of the Red Banner , Orders of Suvorov of the 3rd degree and the Patriotic War of the 2nd degree, along with a number of medals [1] .
