1968 European Ice Hockey Championship among junior teams

The 1st European Ice Hockey Championship among junior teams under the auspices of the IIHF was held from December 15, 1967 to January 2, 1968 in the cities of Tampere and Helsinki ( Finland ). 6 teams took part in the championship, 5 of which went through the qualification round and the hostess of the tournament, the Finnish national team. The winner was the team of Czechoslovakia . At this tournament for the USSR national team, for the first time in his sports career, played 15-year-old Vladislav Tretyak [1] .

Qualification Round

At this stage, the six best teams of the previous tournament competed: the USSR, Czechoslovakia, Sweden, Finland, East Germany and Poland, as well as the national teams of Bulgaria, Switzerland, Norway, France and Germany. The German national team refused to play against the Czechoslovak team. According to the results of the qualification tournament, the teams of Czechoslovakia, the USSR, Sweden, the German Democratic Republic, Poland and the host team of the championship, the junior team of Finland passed to the first European Championship.
