History
The 46th Guards Rifle Division dates back to the 174th Rifle Division (2nd formation) , formed in 1942.
Battle Path
For the courage shown in the battles for the Fatherland with the German invaders, for stamina, courage, discipline and organization, for the heroism of the personnel on October 10, 1942 it was transformed into the 46th Guards Rifle Division [1] .
The division became part of the 3rd strike army , received the rank of guards all regiments of the division: the 508th regiment became the 135th guards, the 494th - 139th, the 628th - 141st, 730th - 97th guards artillery regiment.
For successful actions during the capture of Korotoyak, a significant part of the personnel of the compound was awarded government orders and medals. On the occasion of the successful implementation of the Korotoyak operation, the division was visited by the front commander, Marshal of the Soviet Union N.F. Vatutin, and congratulated on the great success. He heartily congratulated Colonel Karapetyan and requested that the division be awarded the honorary title of the guard. The division commander, Colonel S.I. Karapetyan, was presented for awarding the Order of Kutuzov II degree, he was awarded the military rank of Major General .
Since November 1942, the division as part of the 5th Rifle Corps takes part in battles in the Velikiye Luki , Nevel area .
The division participated in the liberation of Latvia .
The division ended the war as part of the 22nd Guards Rifle Corps of the 6th Guards Army of the Leningrad Front, blocking the Kurland group of enemy troops in the Priekule area.
In July 1945, the 46th Guards Rifle Red Banner Division was disbanded.
