Biography

Ivan Titlin was born on April 11, 1909 in the village of Podpogotskaya Mill (now the Yuryansky district of the Kirov region ). He graduated from seven grades of the school and the labor faculty , after which he worked first in catering, then as an electric welder at the factory. In 1931 - 1934 he served in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army . In September 1941, Titlin was re-drafted into the army. In 1942 he graduated from the Ryazan Infantry School. Since May of that year - on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War. He was wounded twice in battle [2] .

By October 1943, the Guard, Senior Lieutenant Ivan Titlin, commanded the 112th separate anti-tank fighter battalion of the 47th Guards Rifle Division of the 12th Army of the 3rd Ukrainian Front . He distinguished himself during the battle of the Dnieper . On October 26, 1943, the Titlin battalion was one of the first to cross the Dnieper in the vicinity of the Dnieper dam in Zaporozhye and seize the bridgehead on its western shore, preventing the enemy from blowing up this dam. Once surrounded, the battalion for three days reflected the German counterattacks, often turning into hand-to-hand fights. In those battles, Titlin was wounded, but continued to fight until reinforcements arrived [2] .

By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of March 19, 1944, for the “exemplary performance of command missions on the front line against the German invaders and the courage and heroism shown” of the guard, senior lieutenant Ivan Titlin was awarded the high rank of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the medal “ Golden Star ” under number 3396 [2] .

In 1944, Titlin graduated from the Shot courses. After the war, he continued to serve in the Soviet Army. He worked as an assistant to the territorial group of the Office of the Commissioner of the SNK of the USSR for Repatriation in West Germany [3] . In 1955, with the rank of Major, Titlin was sacked. He lived and worked in Kirov . He died on June 19, 1992 [2] .
