Located on the banks of the river Urlyai (Urli, Urla, Urludim, Urledim) 30 km from the district center and the railway station Ruzayevka. The definition of “upper” indicates that the locality is located in the upper reaches of the river (downstream - Nizhny Urledim). It was founded in the middle of the 17th century. serving Temnikovsky Tatars on the Insarsky notch line . In the "List of Populated Places of the Penza Province" (1869), Upper Uralledim is a state-owned village of 67 courtyards of Insarsk Uyezd . In 1913, there were 98 yards in the village (641 people); in 1931 - 136 households (731 people), the collective farm “Urledimsky” was created, and since 2002 - the SEC. In the modern infrastructure of the village there is a basic school, a first-aid post, a mosque, a cultural center, and a shop. The Verkhneurledimsky rural administration includes with. Nizhny Urledim (30 people) and Yakovschina (92 people).

The village of Yakovschina (Klyuchishchi) - the village (according to the founders of Yakovlevschina, in the temple - Znamenskoye) is located on the river Gremyachka. It arose in the 17th century on lands granted to the Atemar clan by the service noblemen of the Yakovlevs. In the “Atemar tithe” of 1669-1670 it is recorded that Kirill Artemyevich Yakovlev received 250 couples in the Saransk district for service. This corner of Insarsk County is far from the main roads and crowded fairs, the local peasants did not differ in prosperity, and the landowners tried not to particularly annoy the noble world with their activities for the benefit of society. Previously, mostly Russians lived in the village, according to the 2010 census, out of 86 people living in the majority of the population, the majority are Tatars. Now Yakovshchina is one of the streets of Upper Urledim. The main attraction of the village is the ruins of the Sign Church. At the end of the XIX century there was the Znamensky Monastery

The village gained fame for the events of 1774. During the Pugachev uprising , tragic events occurred in the village of Klyuchishchi. The rebels, supported by local peasants, killed the whole family of local landowners Kozhins: the head of the family of college college assessor Ivan Ivanovich Kozhin, his wife Tatyana Sergeevna, their young daughters Agrafena, Avdotya, Varvara, the owner's mother Avdotya Nikolaevna. Unfortunately, several relatives were visiting the Kozhins at that time - they were also killed. The deaths were escaped by the executed brother Vasily Ivanovich Kozhin with his daughter, they were away. (from the complete works of A. S. Pushkin, M., 1882, “The History of the Pugachev Riot ”) The heirs of the Kozhins, who escaped death, did not take revenge on their peasants who took part in the massacre. In 1792, in memory of those killed in reproach to the villains, a stone Znamensky church was built over their grave.
