Blas de Otero, passed political conflicts and devoted his whole life to the search for God.

Burned the manuscripts of their first pre-war books. The title of the first book of sonnets, which brought him fame, was already controversial - "In the bestial human angel" (Ángel fieramente humano) (1950).

Today's bitter but brave Spain is the main theme of Otero's poetry and sonnets. In verses, thoughts about the fate of the motherland, about art and national poetry. He is the author of poetry collections “In the bestial human angel” (1950), “Double consciousness”, “Says conscience” (“Redoble de conciencia” (1951), “I demand peace and words” (“Pido la paz y la palabra” , 1955), “In Spanish” (“En castellano”, 1960), “It Is About Spain” (“Que trata de España”, 1963), “Fictional and Fictional Stories” (1970), “The Whole World” and of others, the poet addresses the “innumerable majority”, advocates socially significant poetry accessible to the people, his poetry is harsh, strict, and at the same time effective and optimistic.

In recent years, a strict critic of the “historical present” and a lyricist looking to the past (“Poetry and History”, “Country”, “Poetry of Names”). Compiled by anthologies.

His poems are laconic, aphoristic. The poet was forced to speak allegorically. The traditions of folk poetry are felt in his work and at the same time it is deeply modern. Otero often used a free verse.

Most of the collections of the poet during the years of reaction were prohibited by censorship and published outside of Spain. The poetry of Blas de Otero is a high example of civic, relevant poetry. As critics say, he is the most social and most “Spanish” poet of his generation. [3]

  “Shadows whispered to him” (Sonnet)

I’ll join my lips and as if grab
I void, breathe in and pray
I am God's flesh, and I yearn for thirst,
in the arms I satisfy the hunger of God.

To you I press, to the hem
like a drowning man, moaning to a ship,
I swallow handfuls of the sea, your blood
and the chest is a wave, and caress them.

Through the wounds of eyes tormented by love
you cry, bleeding with God's blood
that death gives birth to love and pain.

Do not merge us. A vain dream!
Madness to wait. I can’t see your appearance.
Behind the shadow, God, only silt is thick!

Memory

The name of the poet is the primary school "Blas de Otero" in the city of Alcorcon .
