Biography

He started playing football in his native state, in 1951 he became a part of the capital's “ Fluminense ”, but for three years he failed to become a solid player in the base of the “three-color”, although he scored goals quite regularly. In 1954, Larry joined the Internationale. In the first Gre-Nale, he became a true favorite of Inter's torsid, sending four goals to Gremio , and the Colorado’s celebrated their victory in the match with a score of 6: 2 [2] . For about a year, the newcomer lived in the same house with other Inter players - Bodinho , Geronimo and Salvador - until the team provided their new home with their new star. The house was located in close proximity to the old Inter Arena - the Eucalyptus Stadium [3] .

Until the late 1950s, Larry formed a powerful bond with the Pernambuccan Bodinho, which in the next decade was compared with the “ Santos ” pair of Pele – Coutinho [2] . In the 1955 Rio Grande do Sul State Championship, Larry scored 23 goals in 18 games, while he did not even become the top scorer, as his partner Bodinho scored even more - 25 goals [2] . That year, Larry won his first state title, the second came to the striker at the very sunset of his career - in 1961 .

Larry scored 176 goals for “Internacional” [3] [4] . This makes him the fifth scorer in club history after Carlitos (326 goals), Bodinho (244), Claudiomiro (210) and Valdomiro (192).

In 1952, Larry as part of the Brazilian Olympic team took part in the Games in Helsinki . In the first game of the football tournament, the Brazilians conceded to the Netherlands team already in the 15th minute. Umberto Tozzi equalized the score in the 25th minute, and before the break Larry scored twice, including taking the first penalty in the history of the Olympic team, and in the end Brazil brought the match to victory with a score of 5: 1 [5] . In the second game, goals of Larry and Umberto Tozzi brought Brazil a victory over the Luxembourg national team , which managed to provide decent resistance to the South Americans - 2: 1 [6] . In the ¼ final, Larry reopened an account in the 12th minute of the game against the German national team . At the 74th minute, Zozimo made the score 2-0, but after a minute the Germans answered one goal, and at the 89th minute they evened the score. At the 96th minute, Willy Schroeder scored his second goal in the game, and at the 120th minute the Germans scored the fourth goal - 4: 2 and Brazil flew out of the tournament [7] . Larry became the top scorer of his team in the tournament (4 goals in 3 matches) [8] .

In 1956, Larry as a member of the Brazilian national team (which was actually represented by the Gaucho - Rio Grande do Sul state team) became the winner of the Pan American Championship [3] [9] . In total, for the main national team of Brazil, Larry spent 6 matches and scored 4 goals.

Larry's style of play was characterized as elegant and technical, this allowed the attacker to avoid strong contacts with the defenders of the opponent [2] .

In 1962, Larry ended his career as a football player and went into politics , immediately becoming a member of the legislative assembly of the state of Rio Grande do Sul [2] . He also worked as a commentator on various television channels in southern Brazil . Married, has children [3] .
