Ivan Silverstrovich Chernyavsky ( November 12, 1835 - November 5, 1904 ; St. Petersburg ) - Lieutenant General of the field foot artillery, head of the Military History Department at the District Headquarters of the Caucasian Military District [1] . Member of the Caucasian War , the suppression of the Adaevsky Uprising (1870) and the Russo-Turkish War (1877-1878) .

Biography
Ivan Chernyavsky was born on November 12, 1835. Orthodox religion. Educated in the Konstantinovsky Cadet Corps .
In the officer rank in service since June 11, 1855. Since 1857, took part in hostilities in the Caucasus . On August 26, 1858 he received the rank of second lieutenant, and on August 27 of the following year the lieutenant. September 16, 1863 "for military distinction" was awarded the rank of staff captain. On August 19, 1866 he was appointed adjutant to the commander of the Dagestan region . On July 31 of the following year he received the rank of captain. In 1870 he participated in the suppression of the Adaev uprising in Mangyshlak . From November 26, 1871 to July 11, 1872 and from November 28, 1872 to January 21, 1879, E. I. V. was at the disposal of the Commander-in-Chief of the Caucasian Army. March 31, 1874 awarded the rank of colonel. He participated in the Russian-Turkish war of 1877-1878. at the Caucasian theater of operations . In 1879 he was promoted to major general (“for military distinctions” with seniority of October 2, 1877), and on June 28, 1887 to lieutenant general. On June 13, 1888 he was appointed head of the Military Historical Department at the District Headquarters of the Caucasian Military District . In this position, Chernyavsky was the editor of the " Caucasian Collection " [2] , as well as a number of historical works compiled by A. L. Gisetti , V. I. Tomkeev and others. From January 27, 1899 he was at the disposal of the Main Artillery Directorate, and March 24, 1901 at the disposal of the Chief of the General Staff. As of 1904, he lived in St. Petersburg on the street. Sergievskaya (d. 67) [3] .
He died on November 5, 1904. He was buried in the Novodevichy Convent in St. Petersburg [4] .
