Biography
Sukur Kurban was born in 1848 (according to other sources in 1842 ) in the village of Khashagi . Being blind from birth, he traveled to Dagestan in search of earnings with a cousin. "Sukur" is translated from the Dargin language as "blind." The talent to compose songs in Sukur Kurban manifested itself in childhood. His songs were appreciated and quickly fell in love. Kurban knew many Dagestan languages and translated songs of neighboring peoples into the Dargin language. He joyfully received the news of the revolution ; with his songs he inspired partisans fighting against the whites .
Creativity
Sukur Kurban composed himself and translated into Dargin songs of other nations. He developed the song traditions of the Dargin poet Batyray . He sang about feelings, about social inequality (the song "Sold to Mesed"). The Dargin enlightener Bashir Dalgat collected all the songs of Kurban and published in 1892 in the "Collection of information for describing the tribes and localities of the Caucasus."
Death
Sukur Kurban died in 1922 , he was poisoned at someone's wedding.
