People's Worker of Culture of the NRB (1963). Hero of the People’s Republic of Bulgaria , twice Hero of Socialist Labor (NRB) . Laureate of the Dimitrov Prize (1950 and 1959).

Biography

Member of the Bulgarian Komsomol since 1922 and the Bulgarian Communist Party since 1924. Member of the September Uprising in 1923

In 1924 he graduated from a teacher training college in Kazanlak . In 1924-1925 he was a teacher in his native village, for communist activities he was dismissed from work.

In 1925-1928 he studied agronomy at Sofia University , but was excluded for organizing a student strike. He continued his education in Prague (1929-1930), worked as a construction worker, and in 1930 graduated from Sofia University.

Volunteer participated in the Second World War.

People’s representative (deputy) from the 1st to the VIIth National Assembly of Bulgaria from Plovdiv and the region. Deputy Chairman of the Presidium and member of the Presidium of the National Assembly of the NRB (1950-1962). Member of the Central Committee of the BKP since 1958

In 1947-1949 - Director of the People's Theater in Sofia (Bulgaria. Narodn Theater Ivan Vazov), editor-in-chief of the Septemvri magazine (1952-1958).

Chief Secretary and Chairman of the Union of Bulgarian Writers (1958-1962).

Creativity

Karaslavov is one of the main creators of Bulgarian social-realistic literature, whose works have been translated and published in many countries of the world. A recognized theoretician of modern Bulgarian culture.

The debut of the writer took place in 1919. Collaborated in the anti-fascist and proletarian press.

The first collections of Karaslavov’s short stories “Homeless Children” (1926), “Flute Cries” (1927), “At the Post” (1932) and the novel “Selkor” (1933) introduce a social struggle into the world of rural life in Bulgaria.

The novels "Datura" (1938, Russian translation. 1958), "Daughter" (1942) contain realistic pictures of the life of a Bulgarian village during the years of the monarchist fascist regime. The series of novels “Simple People” (books 1–4, 1951–1966) gives an epic picture of the life of the Bulgarian people from the time of the First World War 1914–1918 until the mid-1920s.

He is also the author of plays, short stories and novels for the youth, literary-critical and biographical essays about Bulgarian writers (collection "Close and Familiar. Thoughts and Memories", 1968).
