Formula-4s is an international water sport racing held under the auspices of the International Federation of Powerboat Sport (Union Internationale Motonatique - UIM), in the international class of racing vessels UIM Class F-4s. The prefix S gives a reference to the abbreviation of 4-stroke (four strokes), which indicates the use of four-stroke outboard boat motors.

History
This class was developed as a more environmentally friendly alternative to the UIM S750, UIM S550, UIM F4 and UIM F3 classes. Prior to being given the status of world championships and continental championships, the class was called SL-60. The first races were held in 2005 in Scandinavia. In 2009, the SL-60 class was chosen as the base for the international ADAC Masters series held in Germany. In 2010, the class received the modern name of the F-4s and the status of the European Championship. In 2011, the promotional series F-4s was launched in conjunction with the stages of the Formula 1 World Championship. And in 2013, the first world championship in the Formula 4s class was held.
Development and international series
Currently, the F-4s class is the fastest growing powerboat class. Championship stages are held in such countries as Hungary, Latvia, Finland, France, Great Britain, Germany, Sweden, and Italy. In addition to the World Cup and Europe, prestigious international races of the ADAC Masters series (Germany) and the F-4s promotional series in support of the Formula 1 World Championship are held . In 2014, the number of pilots of international series exceeds 50 people, and the number of pilots of national series is simply incalculable. Also in this class are open international competitions in countries such as the United States, China, the United Arab Emirates, the countries of the Baltic States and Scandinavia, and many others. I would like to especially note the promotional series F-4s, which was established in order to create a reserve of young pilots and give them the opportunity to explore the Formula 1 tracks. The races of this series take place directly with the racing weekend of royal water races.
This popularity is due to several reasons. One of the main reasons is high security. The boats of Formula 4s are equipped with safety capsules borrowed from the upper classes Formula1 H2O and Formula2 H2O. So far, not a single fatal case or any serious injuries among the pilots in this class has been registered. It is also necessary to note the relatively low cost of "entry" into the class and low operating cost compared with other classes of the Formula - F1, F2 and F500. However, the labor costs for fine-tuning and tuning the racing vessel and the F-4S engine are commensurate with the senior classes. It takes several weeks of work of highly skilled mechanics to prepare one case for launch. As a rule, these works are performed by shipbuilding companies or racing clubs that have the right equipment. Finally, one of the decisive reasons for many pilots is that this class is the shortest road to the royal race. F-4s is one of the few international classes that, with a certain experience (at least 8 races under the UIM rules), gives the right to receive a super-license. The control of the F-4s boats is almost the same as in the upper grades, adjusted for speed. F-4s is the best practice for pilots, as the test runs of young riders in high school F1 and F2 have proven.
Racing ships
Boats in the F-4s class are built according to the “tunnel catamaran” principle. Manufacturing technology borrowed from the older "formulas". In the manufacture of boats of this class, the most modern technologies and the latest materials, such as carbon fiber, Kevlar, Nomex, the latest varieties of polymer resins, etc. are used. designs and as a result increased safety of pilots. Modern boats of Formula 4s, as in the upper classes, are equipped with safety capsules capable of withstanding pressures of 3000 N / cm2 and more. Many companies and private sporty shipbuilders are engaged in the manufacture of boats of this class in the United States, Europe, and China. Generally recognized leading manufacturers are Baba Racing (Italy) , ASV (Hungary), Molgaard Racing (Denmark) .
Engines
In accordance with the UIM rules, a four-stroke outboard Mercury 60 EFI Racing outboard motor is used for this class. In accordance with modern trends, this engine is characterized by reduced emissions of harmful substances into the atmosphere and meets the most stringent environmental requirements. At the same time, thanks to the sporty design of the suspension and the middle part of the engine, the engine has a lower center of gravity, which gives excellent results in racing.
