Biography
Artyom Udachin was born in a sports family. Mother is a master of sports in gymnastics , and her father is a former weightlifter . It was he who brought his son to the barbell when he was only 9 years old. The following year, Artyom took part in his debut competition - the championship of the city of Mariupol. The first coach of Udachin was Vitaly Shvedov , who was engaged in preparing the athlete and later, training Artyom throughout his career.
In 1998–2000 , Udachin became the World Junior Champion three times in a row and, for the first time at the age of 19, was given the first opportunity to participate in the Olympic Games held in Sydney . Artem showed only the 11th result on the platforms of Australia with a total of 415 kg (195 + 220). However, as early as next year, the injury almost crossed the hopes of the young athlete for future success. American doctors made a diagnosis of tearing of the ligaments, however, they refused to do the operation, fearing that Udachin might remain disabled. However, Mikhail Cherevko , a Donetsk doctor, presented the athlete with a “new life”, who successfully carried out surgery and put Artyom on his feet.
In 2002, Udachin took third place at the World Championships in Warsaw , having shown a significantly better result than at the Games in Sydney - 440 kg (200 + 240). However, the next world championship in Vancouver became fatal for a Ukrainian athlete - his doping test was positive, which led to a two-year disqualification for Udachina, which was due to end on November 22, 2005 [1] . In this regard, Artyom missed the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens , where he had high hopes.
The first major tournament after disqualification brought Udachin "silver". At the 2006 World Championships in Santo Domingo, Artyom was only two kilograms in the biathlon event ahead of the Chinese athlete, showing a result of 439 kg (199 + 240) [2] .
In 2008, Artyom Udachin was close to receiving a bronze award at the Olympic Games in Beijing , not reaching the 3rd place only 6 kg in total. In the last attempt in the push, Artyom ordered a weight that would be enough to catch up with Latvian athlete Viktor Shcherbatykh , but did not take it, ending the competition with a final result of 442 kg (207 + 235) [3] .
The following year, at the World Championships 2009 in South Korea, Artem Udachin took the same weight as the Korean athlete, but the representative of the championship hosts was lighter than the Ukrainian athlete, so the victory was given to him specifically [4] . And at the 2010 World Championships in Antalya, Udachin, again, in terms of personal weight, gave way to silver to the Olympic champion of Beijing to the German Matthias Steiner [5] .
In April 2013, at the European Championships in Tirana, Artyom won the gold medal in the competition in the snatch and won the silver medal in the biathlon [6] .
