Biography
Vasily Chernyavsky was born on September 7, 1922 in the village of Leontyevka (now Kyshtovsky district of the Novosibirsk region ). After finishing seven classes of the school he worked on a collective farm . In June 1941, Chernyavsky was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. Since August of that year - on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War. In the battles he was wounded [1] .
By September 1943, the Red Army soldier Vasily Chernyavsky was a gunner of a company of machine gunners of the 931st Infantry Regiment of the 240th Infantry Division of the 51st Infantry Corps of the 38th Army of the Voronezh Front . He distinguished himself during the battle of the Dnieper . On the night of September 29-30, 1943, Chernyavsky’s company was one of the first to cross the Dnieper in the Lyutezh village of the Vyshgorodsky district of the Kiev region of the Ukrainian SSR and took an active part in the battles to capture and hold the bridgehead on its western shore. Chernyavsky participated in repelling eight German counterattacks, inflicting heavy losses on the enemy [1] .
By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of November 13, 1943 for “courage and heroism shown at the front of the struggle against the German invaders”, Red Army soldier Vasily Chernyavsky was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal number 2242 [1] .
In 1945, with the rank of captain, Chernyavsky was sacked. He lived and worked in Kyshtovka . He died on October 9, 1996 [1] .
He was also awarded two orders of the Patriotic War of the 1st degree, the Order of Glory of the 3rd degree and a number of medals [1] .
