Format Changes

  • This is the first draw of the tournament in which the current UEFA Europa League winner automatically participates, starting at least with the playoff round [2] [3] .
  • The maximum number of teams from one national association is increased to five.
  • The first seeding basket during the group stage draw will be the current Champions League winner and champions of national associations with a rank of 1–7. If the winner of the Champions League is one of them, then the champion of the 8th association will replenish the first basket. The composition of the remaining sowing baskets is still formed on the basis of club coefficients as of the end of the previous season [4] [5] [6] .

Members

78 teams from 53 UEFA football associations will take part in the 2015/2016 Champions League draw ( Liechtenstein does not take part, as he does not hold a draw for the home championship). The number of places is distributed according to the UEFA coefficient table after the European Cup season 2013/2014 [7] .

So in the season 2015/2016, the places will be distributed as follows:

  • Associations with a rank of 1-3 declare 4 teams each
  • Associations with a rank of 4-6 declare 3 teams each
  • Associations with a rank of 7-15 declare 2 teams each
  • Associations with a rank of 16-54 (except Liechtenstein) declare 1 team each

Given the fact that the winners of the Champions League 2014/2015 and the Europa League 2014/2015 qualify automatically [8] , the number of teams from one association can be five, but it should not exceed this figure. This means that, unlike previous seasons, if one of the current winners of European competitions, representing an association with a rank of 1-3 (Spain, England or Germany), but not both the same, takes in his championship a place that does not correspond to getting into competition, the team qualified last in it (4th place) will not be deprived of participation in it. If the winners of both Eurocups of the previous season represent the same association with a rank of 1-3 and at the same time they take places in their championship that do not correspond to getting into the competition, then the team taking fourth place in the championship of this country will participate in the group stage Europa League 2015/2016 [7] [9] . After the victory of Seville in the final of the Europa League 2014/15, Spain received representation of 5 clubs in the Champions League 2015/16 [10] .

Association Rating

The rating of football associations and, accordingly, the distribution of places in the UEFA Champions League 2015/2016 among countries is formed on the basis of the UEFA odds table , which for this draw takes into account the results of clubs in official European club competitions from the 2009/2010 season to the 2013/2014 season inclusive, given below [11] [12] :
