The musical theme of the first part of this song, especially the second verse: "Creaking the Floor Behind the Dead ...", which is a direct quotation, is borrowed from the song "Kyoto Song" by The Cure , written by band leader Robert Smith [1] and first released on 1985 album years " The Head on the Door ". Konstantin Kinchev noted that he was fascinated by the group The Cure and “could not resist the temptation to use the harmony and melody of a famous band” [2] , but the second part of the song was written by him alone: “the second part of the development of this song is already my half thought” [2 ] . The fact of borrowing from The Cure musician never hid:
The composition Cure fascinated me so much that a song was written on this subject. For the same melody, the same harmony, but - with the development I later retreated from the topic, it carried me. And I don’t reproach myself for it, because I honestly approached the question of authorship, indicated on the album: the author of music and words is The Cure and K. K. [3]
Alexey Vishnya recalled the song recording:
At twelve I was approaching the house. Kostya has already arrived. And Pasha Kondratenko . I handed over the keyboard to the happy keyboard player and ran into the kitchen to tell my wife about lunch mit. That day we recorded “Theater of Shadows”, so much so that Kinchev pressed my forehead to his chest and sat like that for a long time. We did it really well, we would have finished the album, if Kostya hadn’t turned up a decent studio, where Sixth Forester has signed up - the MCI trailer [4] .
The program of the group’s autumn concerts in 2009 is called “The Sixth Forester - 20 Years Later”. The set list, in addition to the rest of the tracks, included all eight songs from the album, including the “Theater of Shadows”, which the group had not performed for a long time [5] .
