6th American Chess Congress

The 6th American Chess Congress was held from March 25 to May 27 in New York in 1889 .

One of the longest (64 days) in the history of chess competitions: two-circle, with 20 participants; in the 2nd round, the 1st draw was outplayed. 1-2 places were shared by Max Weis (24 wins, 10 draws and 4 losses) and Mikhail Chigorin (27 wins, 4 draws and 7 losses) - 29 points each. Max Weiss and Mikhail Chigorin played an extra match for the 1st prize, all 4 games of which ended in a draw.
