Biography
Born March 3, 1918 in the village of Mikhailovka, now a city in the Volgograd region , in a peasant family. Russian. He received secondary education, worked at the collective farm, then at the Leningrad Electrosila plant.
In the Red Army in 1938–40 and from June 1941. Member of the Soviet-Finnish war of 1939-1940.
At the front in World War II from September 1941. He distinguished himself on September 28, 1943 during the crossing of the Dnieper , the first of the infantry platoon led to cross the river in the vicinity of the village of Vyalye ( Braginsky district of the Gomel region ) and with battle occupied the first enemy trenches. The platoon repelled several enemy counterattacks, which contributed to the battalion boosting the Dnieper.
By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of January 15, 1944, Vasily Churyumov was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union with the awarding of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal.
He died on May 5, 1945 in the battles on the territory of Czechoslovakia. He was buried in the city of Uherske Hradiste. A street in Mikhailovka is named after the Hero [1] .
