History

In 1861, the 1st management battalion of Herefordshire and Redshire rifle volunteer corps was formed, which included military personnel from the 1st to 8th Herefordshire rifle volunteer corps and from the 1st to 3rd Redshire rifle volunteer corps, which participated in Crimean War [2] . In 1880, he was renamed the 1st Herefordshire (Hereford and Radnor) rifle volunteer battalion, and the corps became known as companies; since 1881 he became a volunteer battalion of His Majesty (Shropshire Light Infantry). In 1908 he was transferred to the Territorial Defense Force under the name of His Majesty Herefordshire Battalion (Shropshire Light Infantry; excluding Redshire Companies), and since 1909 was named after the 1st Battalion, Herefordshire Regiment.

During the First World War, the regiment included three battalions: the 1st fought at Gallipoli, in Egypt and Palestine, and at the end of the war in France [3] . During World War II, the 1st battalion was divided into 1/1 and 1/2-nd battalions [4] : the first of them participated in battles in France in 1944, the second was assigned to the British Territorial Forces and served in the British Isles . In 1947, the battalions again united in the 1st battalion of the Herefordshire Light Infantry, and in 1967 the regiment was officially abolished.

The successors of the regiment were two companies of the Territorial Army: company C (Herefordshire) of the light volunteer infantry and company B (Herefords of the light infantry) of His Majesty the Shropshire and Herefordshire light infantry. After a series of renaming and reorganization, the Hereford platoon (company E, 4th battalion of the Mersiysk regiment), also known as the H division (Hereford) of the Royal Mercian and Lancaster omen, became the legal successor today.
