Biography

From an ancient noble family . After graduating from the Law Faculty of Moscow University in 1804, he served as editor of the Law Drafting Commission, then as a senior official of the 2nd Division of S. E. I. Chancellery.

In 1805 he published the magazine Northern Mercury (5 issues were published).

In 1807-1826 he was a member of the Free Society of Lovers of Literature, Sciences and Arts . Member of the literary society "Conversation of lovers of the Russian word." He was fond of translations of literary works (most often - the libretto of Italian operas, which he liked to attend).

Velyaminov-Zernov serves the Ministry of Justice ... He’s a very small stupid and with information, ... he writes poetry surprisingly easily: no more than a quarter of an hour, to prove his ability, he translated one big aria from the opera Impresario ... - Stepan Petrovich Zhikharev

He died in St. Petersburg on January 17 (29), 1831 [1] . He was buried at the Tikhvin cemetery of the Alexander Nevsky Lavra [2] [3] .

Family

Father - Fedor Mikhailovich Velyaminov-Zernov (5.2.1754 - 22.7.1831, Moscow), Prime Minister; mother - Ekaterina Nikolaevna (nee Ragozina).

Wife - Anna Yakovlevna (1797-1863), daughter of Yakov Nikolaevich Khanykov (1759-1805) and Anastasia Markelovna (nee Meshchaninova, 1769-1811). Children:

  • Vladimir (1830-1904) - archaeologist, orientalist, academician;
  • Fedor.

Activities

In 1815, he published The Experience of the Inscription of Russian Private Law (in 2 parts; 2nd edition, 1821-1823), the first scientific work on Russian civil law that had an undeniable influence on the compilation of the Code of Laws.

He translated into Russian the “Initial Foundations of Roman Civil Law and Criminal Laws” by H. Schletser .

A number of publications came out under the pseudonyms of VV V .; B. W .; Vlmnv-Zrnv, Vldir; Vlmnv-Zrnv, Volodimir; -in-in [4] .
