Savchenko, Nikolai Anikeevich

Nikolay Anikeevich Savchenko ( Ukrainian Mikola Onikiyovich Savchenko ; December 19, 1903 , Korsun (now Korsun-Shevchenkovsky, Cherkasy region of Ukraine ) - March 16, 1985 , Lugansk ) - Ukrainian Soviet breeder , professor (1964), Doctor of Agricultural Sciences (1964). Honored Scientist of the Ukrainian SSR (since 1968).

Biography

In 1927 he graduated from the Maslovsky Institute for Selection and Seed named after. K.A. Timiryazev in the Kiev region. In 1927-1930 he worked as an agronomist at the Mliyev Experimental Gardening Station named after L.P. Simirenko ( Cherkasy region ).

In 1930-1980 - he worked at the Voroshilovgrad Agricultural Institute .

In 1930-1975 - assistant breeder, head of the department of selection and plant growing of the Voroshilovgrad Agricultural Institute .

Since 1976 - professor and consultant in the same place.

Since 1980 - retired.

Scientific activity

Research in the field of vegetable crop breeding, author of new varieties of tomatoes - Erliana, Miracle of the market ; cabbage - Zavadovskaya ; onions - Lugansk [1] and co-author of the pea variety Voroshilovgradsky-29.

Over 50 years of work at the Agricultural Institute, he brought forth a number of new and improved varieties of vegetable crops that have become popular in the USSR and abroad.

Published over 70 scientific papers. He became the founder of the school of breeding and genetic research of the Lugansk Institute.

He was awarded the Order of Lenin, other orders and medals of the USSR.
