Allchurch, Ivor

Ivor John Allchurch ( born Ivor John Allchurch ; October 16, 1929 ; Swansea July 10, 1997 , ibid.) Is a Welsh football striker . First of all, he is known for his performances for the Newcastle United and Swansea Town clubs, as well as for the national team of Wales . His younger brother Len was also a footballer and with him was a member of the Welsh national team at the 1958 World Cup .

Career

In clubs

In adult football he made his debut in 1948 with performances for the Shrewsbury Town , in which he spent one season, taking part in 11 championship matches and scoring one goal.

In 1949-1958 he played for Swansea Town in the Second Division of the Football League . With his game for the Welsh team, he attracted the attention of the coaching staff of the Newcastle United First Division club, where he moved during the 1958/59 season . Most of the time spent at Newcastle United, Allchurch was the main player in the attacking team.

In August 1962, Ivor signed a contract with the club of the Second Division " Cardiff City ", which included spent the next three years of his career. Playing in the "Azure Birds", also usually went on the field in the main team. As part of Cardiff City, he was one of the team's top scorers, with an average performance of 0.38 goals per championship game.

In 1965, Allchurch returned to Swansea, who was already in the Third Division , and he spent his last season at the club ( 1967/68 ) in the Fourth Division .

Ivor completed his professional gaming career at the Worcester City Southern League club in the 1968/69 season .

In 1950, Allchurch made his Welsh national team debut in the Home Championship game against England (2: 4). During his career in the national team, which lasted 17 years, he spent 68 matches, scoring 23 goals.

As part of the team, he participated in the 1958 World Cup in Sweden, where the Welsh in the quarterfinals lost to future Brazilian champions. Allchurch himself played all five matches of his team in the tournament: in addition to playing with Brazil, these were group stage meetings with Mexico , Sweden and twice with Hungary .
