It is located on the river Seselda, 23 km from the district center and 6 km from the Samaevka railway station. The name is associated with a religious holiday of the Intercession of the Blessed Virgin. In the "List of Populated Places of the Penza Province" (1869), Pokrovsk is a village government of 380 households (2,457 people) in Narovchatsky District ; there were 2 churches, a school, a parish government. According to the household census of 1913, there were 699 households in Pokrovsk (4,433 people); 2 churches, Zemstvo school, 5 windmills, 4 oil mills, 5 forges, 4 felting plants, 2 beer and wine establishments.
From March 16, 1925 - as a part of Spassky (since September 9, 1925 - Bednodemyansky) County [1] .
